MIAMI COUNTY — A 20-year-old Tipp City man was sentenced to serve nine months in prison for fourth-degree unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in Miami County Common Pleas Court on Monday.
Last month, Alexander Sedam entered a plea of guilty as part of a plea agreement with state prosecutors to drop two additional counts of the same charge, as well as contributing to the delinquency of a minor and corrupting another with drugs.
Judge Christopher Gee said Sedam failed to acknowledge his actions, even blaming the minor victim in a letter to the judge.
“In a number of ways, you blamed this 13 year-old girl… I don’t think you get it,” Judge Gee told Sedam. Gee also noted Sedam committed the crime while on probation for contributing to the delinquency of a minor in Union County. Part of the probation conditions stated Sedam was not to have any unsupervised contact with any minors.
Miami County Prosecutor Tony Kendell said Sedam “crossed that line” prior to sentencing and recommended prison or intermittent jail time for Sedam. Sedam did not apologize for his actions and only stated he had found new job during his chance to speak to the judge prior to sentencing.
Upon his release from prison, Sedam must register as a Tier II sex offender for the next 25 years and serve five years mandatory post-release control.
On Jan. 30, West Milton Police officers on patrol pulled Sedam over during a traffic stop around 2 a.m near Jay and Hayes roads. Officers questioned Sedam and the minor female who was under the age of 14 with whom Sedam later said he had met through Facebook six months earlier. Officers questioned the minor who was found to have multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia and marijuana in her purse. Upon further investigation and after an interview with Sedam, he admitted to having a sexual relationship with the minor.
