A ‘tree-mendous’ honor

Anthony Weber | Troy Daily News Members of the community gathered during an Arbor Day celebration Friday at Hobart Arena in Troy. During the ceremony, Troy Mayor Mike Beamish read a proclamation, comments were given from the Troy Beautification Committee and a presentation of books reflecting trees was given to each school participating in the event. Park superintendent Jeremy Drake also mentioned several other trees were recently rededicated around the historic arena. Concluding the event, third-grade students from Troy area schools were invited as school representatives to shovel dirt around the northern red oak planted in honor of Kathy Slack, a member of the Troy Skating Club since 1954. Here, Simone Scribner, left, and Ava Koch, both of Concord Elementary School, spread dirt around the newly planted tree.
