Bethel presents “Dreamcoat”

BETHEL TWP. — The biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to life onstage beginning Thursday night at Bethel, as students present “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

Musicalized by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, the show tells the story of a young man who is resented by his 11 brothers for his prophetic dreams and their father’s favoritism.

Sold into slavery in Egypt by his brothers after their father gifts him a beautiful many-colored coat, Joseph (played by Zachary Moore) endures a series of adventures and hardships before ultimately becoming important to the Pharaoh (Adam Clark) because of his ability to interpret dreams.

“There is very little to no dialogue as the story is told through continuous singing and many different musical styles including country, calypso and rock n’ roll,” director Tyler Spears said.

Those familiar with the 1999 film of the musical will notice additional scenes and a song that will be unique to the school’s productio, Spears added.

“This is a very upbeat kid friendly musical that is fun for the entire family,” Spears said.

The show opens Thursday, April 6, at 7 p.m., and continues Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m in the Bethel auditorium.

Tickets are $8 for all of the 7 p.m. shows and $6 for the 2 p.m show. Tickets are available at the school from 7:45-9 a.m. and from 2:30-3:45 p.m.

If the ticket office is closed, send a text to (937) 677-1298 including your name, the time and date of the performance and number of tickets. Those tickets can be picked up at the door before the performance.
