KETTERING — Piqua’s Sam Herndon was the only Piqua wrestler to advance to the semifinals in the D-I district wrestling tournament at Trent Arena Friday.
Herndon (113) recorded a 12-1 major decision over Jacob Boulton of Springboro.
He then won a 10-9 thriller over Harry Sand of Turpin.
He wrestles Chad Craft of Northmont in the semifinals today.
He will need to win one of his next two matches to advance on to the state meet.
The other three Piqua wrestlers were eliminated Friday.
Nick Baker (120) lost a 16-4 major decision to Sam Ridgley of Lebanon and was pinned in 4:45 by Bryan Ward of Bellefontaine.
Andrew Bolin (138) lost a 16-3 major decision to Tristin McGrath of Glen Este and lost by disqualification to D.J. Whiles of Edgewood.
Jake Hetzler (285) was pinned in 2:23 by Ova Venters of Edgewood and in 1:33 by Jerron Cage of Winton Woods.

TROY — Eight local wrestlers advanced to the D-III district semifinals Friday night at Hobart Arena.
Versailles had four wrestlers advance to the semifinals.
They were Preston Platfoot (120), Tanner Bey (138), Corey Dieringer (160) and Kyle Gigandet (195).
For Miami East, Graham Shore (113), Alex Isbrandt (126) and Ben Ferguson (285) advanced.
For Covington, Lance Miller (160) is in the semifinals.
A number of other wrestlers are still alive in consolations.
Wrestling resumes this morning.
The top four in each weight class will advance on to the state meet.
