Piqua will look to close out the regular season Friday with a win over Troy, before opening D-I sectional play on Feb. 23 against Springboro.
Piqua, 9-12 overall and 6-8 in GWOC American play, is coming off an 84-51 win over Greenville, who is 1-19 overall and 0-14 in GWOC American play.
The Indians celebrated Senior Night from start to finish in that win.
As Trevor Billet, Devon Brown, Logan Copsey, Cory Cotrell, Xian Harrison, Ben Schmiesing, Hayden Schrubb and Holden Yount made their final home game one to remember.
Schrubb had a career game with 21 points and nine rebounds, leading four Indians as seven of the eight seniors scored and five of them made 3-point field goals.
Piqua overcame an early 7-0 deficit, leading 12-9 after one quarter and stretching it to 43-29 at halftime and 63-40 after three quarters.
Mick Karn and Qurri Tucker both added 13 points, while Schmiesing had his usual double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Yount and Copsey brought the crowd to its feet near the end of the game, with Yount hitting three free throws down the stretch and Copsey hitting a late field goal.
Troy also comes into Friday’s game with a 9-12 record, but the Trojans are 7-7 in GWOC American play.
Zach Reichelderfer, a 6-foot-4 senior, leads the Trojans with 15.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
Jacob Martinez, a 6-2 junior, averages 8.9 points a game.
Reichelderfer had 23 points and 12 rebounds in Troy’s 51-48 win over Piqua earlier this season,
Caillou Monroe had nine points in that game and Martinez added eight.
Tucker led Piqua with 15 points in the game.
Karn had 10 and Schmiesing added nine points and eight rebounds, while Schrubb had six assists and five blocks.
Schmiesing, a 6-2 senior, leads Piqua with 15.8 points and is the GWOC’s leading rebounder at 11.6 boards per game.
Tucker, a 5-10 junior, averages 13.2 points, 5-10 senior Brown averages 13.1 and 5-9 junior Karn averages 8.7.
Schrubb, a 6-2 senior, dishes out 4.0 assists and grabs 5.9 rebounds per game.
On Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m., Piqua will open D-I sectional tournament play at Trotwood-Madison High School against Springboro, 6-15.
Piqua is the 15th seed and Springboro is the 16th seed.
Springboro is led by 6-2 senior Kaleb Tabor, who averages 14.2 points per game, while 6-6 junior Garrett Powell averages 10.7 points.
Michael Berner, a 6-7 junior, averages 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds.
Thomas Arrington, a 6-6 senior and 6-1 junior Conner Grevey both average more than six points, while 5-6 sophomore Willieon Yates dishes out 4.5 assists per game.
