TROY — Versailles’s Joe Spitzer continued an incredible season, winning the D-II regional cross country meet at Troy Saturday.
Spitzer headed up a group of three teams and four individuals who qualified for the state meet.
Spitzer won the D-II boys race with a time 16:02.7.
Also advancing to state was Gavin Horne of Miami East, who finished ninth in 16:46.6; successfully making the move up to D-II from D-III.
The Houston boys team continued one of its most successful seasons, finishing third to earn a berth in the state meet Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.
Houston runners places and times included Tristin Freistuhler, 12, 17:04.9; Ethan Knouff, 14, 17:08.0; Blake Jacobs, 44, 18:08.3; Dakota Francis, 49, 18:12.9; Jacob Slater, 51, 18:15.5; Parker Cox, 65, 18:41.8; and Patrick Meiring, 74, 18:56.9.
Russia’s Zachary Bell finished 23rd in 17:33.2.
Versailles and Russia girls both advanced to the state meet — finishing third and fourth — while Paige Boehringer of Covington and Hollie Voisard of Houston advanced as individuals.
Versailles girls runners places and times were Kenia McEldowney, 10, 20:31.4; Megan Rismiller, 18, 20:44.9; Maria Mangen, 21, 21:01.2; Dana Rose, 34, 21:33.8; Kennedy McEldowney, 39, 21:46.1; Hannah Bey, 51, 22:12.4; and Liz Watren, 60, 22:30.0.
Russia girls runners places and times included Megan Frazier, 6, 20:11.8; Becca Seger, 9, 20:28.9; Claire Meyer, 26, 21:13.4; Anna Fiessinger, 46, 21:59.5; Clare Caldwell, 56, 22:24.7; Becky Pinchot, 82, 23:56.2; and Emma DeLaet, 84, 24:14.13.
Boehringer finishsed 11th in 20:32.6 to lead Covington to a fifth-place finish, one spot from qualifying for state.
The rest of the Lady Buccs included Kelsey Dysinger, 32, 21:29.3; Danielle Alexander, 42, 21:53.2; Chelsea Ford, 45, 21:59.1; Emma Dammeyer, 62, 22:35.7; Ashlyn Plessinger, 65, 22:38.5; and Alexis Meyer, 72, 23:03.8.
The Houston boys teams will be joined at state by Voisard after she finished 12th in 20:39.5.
Lindsey Yingst of Miami East finished 22nd in 21:07.5; Macy Flanary of Newton finished 33 in 21:30.1; and Alanna O’Leary finished 35th in 21:34.2.
Returning All-Ohio runner Karmen Knepp of Bradford, did not run in Saturday’s race.
