District cross country, volleyball, boys soccer set for Saturday; time change in Bradford-Russia volleyball match


Volleyball, boys soccer tourneys continue

Piqua’s Ana Adams, Miami East’s Lindsey Yingst and Newton’s Macy Flanary will be among those running at the district cross country races at Cedarville University today.

Saturday will be a busy day for local teams in tournament action.

District cross country is being held for all three Divisions at Cedarville University.

Things kick off with the D-III girls race at 10 a.m.

Local teams include Bradford, Covington, Houston, Lehman Catholic, Miami East, Newton, Russia and Versailles.

Eight teams and individuals in the top 32 will advance on to the Troy regional meet.

The D-III boys race is at 10:45 a.m. with Bradford, Covington, Houston, Lehman Catholic, Newton and Russia among the teams.

The top nine teams and individuals in the top 36 will advance.

The Division II boys race is at 12:15 p.m. with Miami East and Versailles among the teams.

The top seven teams and individuals in the top 28 will advance to regionals.

The D-I girls race is at 1 p.m., with Piqua among the teams competing.

The top eight teams and individuals in the top 32 will advance.

The D-I boys race finishes things off at 1:45 p.m. with Piqua competing.

Nine teams and individuals in the top 36 will advance.

BOYS SOCCER

Lehman Catholic and Piqua will both be in action in second-round action.

Lehman will play at Troy Christian at 3 p.m., while Piqua will play at Centerville at 7 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

It will be a busy day in volleyball at four different sites.

Vandalia D-I

Piqua will open tournament play after taking a bye.

The Lady Indians will play Northmont at 5:30 p.m.

Brookville D-III

Three teams will be in action.

After opening with a win Wednesday over Indian Lake, Miami East plays Preble Shawnee at 1 p.m.

The Vikings defeated Indian Lake 25-10, 25-7, 25-17.

Jonni Parker led the Vikings with 12 kills, 12 aces, eight assists and two digs, Kyndall Hellyer had seven kills, 14 assists, two aces, a dig and a block, Lydia Conley had five kills, Sierra Kinnison had three kills and a dig, Sophia Jacomet had two kills, an ace and seven digs, Delaney Bourelle had two kills, and two digs, Mikayla Schaffner had two kills, an assist and two digs,Kaitlyn Mack had an ace, six digs and a block, Gabrielle Hawkins had an assist and eight digs, Anna Jacomet had four aces, Ashley Monnin had four digs and Macie Schaffner had two assists.

Versailles plays Northridge at 4 p.m., followed by Covington playing Greeneview at 5:30 p.m.

Versailles defeated Northeastern 25-6, 25-10, 25-7 on Thursday.

Troy D-IV

Russia and Bradford play in second-round action at 2:30 p.m.

That is a time change. The match was originally scheduled for 1 p.m.

Arcanum D-IV

Houston will play Twin Valley South at 2:30 p.m., followed by Lehman Catholic and Triad at 4 p.m.

Updates stats from Lehman’s win over Franklin Monroe Wednesday are as follows:

Olivia Lucia had 22 kills to lead the hitters.

Lauren McFarland had 11 kills and 17 digs; while Maddy McFarland had 11 kills and 15 digs.

Malorie Hussey had five kills and five blocks and Ellie Scott added four blocks.Alexis Snipes 51 assists.

Alexis Snipes dished out 51 assists, Hailey Wick led the defense with 18 digs and Brogan McIver added six digs.
