Lehman netters drop close match; golf teams stay busy

Staff Reports

SPRINGFIELD — The Lehman Catholic girls team lost a close match to Kenton Ridge 3-2.

In singles, Claire Larger lost 6-4, 6-4; Sarah Gibson lost 6-7, 6-2, 10-7 (third set super tiebreak) and Melanie Brunner lost 6-1, 6-1.

Lehman swept the doubles matches.

Alex Read and Angeal Brunner won 6-4, 0-6, 7-6; and Kiera Bruns and Ann Pennaparra won 6-2, 6-1.

“It was a long, close hard fought match by both teams,” Lehman coach Tim Ungericht said. “Kenton Ridge has very good singles players. Claire lost to a girl who was a district qualifier last year in a tight match. Our doubles teams are coming together nicely. After they both won the match came down to a superbreaker at second singles which their coach and i agreed to play instead of a full third set because it was getting dark.

“Sarah(Gibson) fought very hard but came up just short. We didn’t get back to school untill 9:30 so instead of practicing tonight I gave our team the night off to get rested up as we play at Troy on Wednesday nightt against my good friend Mark Goldner’s team.”

Lehman is now 0-3 on the season.
