VERSAILLES — Adam Miller returns for his fourth season as Versailles football coach.
The Tigers care coming off 7-5 season which saw them return to postseason play, advancing to the D-V regional semifinals.
That included their first playoff win in sometime.
Returning letterwinners off that team include seniors Jared Niekamp, Collin Peters, Seth Barga, Corey Dieringer, Kyle Marchal, Adam Lyons, Andrew Schmitt, Gavin Mills, Kyle Gigandet, Harrison Detrick, Brent Sherman and Brett Gigandet; and juniors Sam Barga, Kyle Subler, Jonny Moorman, Tanner Bey, Mitchell Paulus, Grant Keller, Eric Knapke and Jacob Heitkamp.
Miller expects some of the top newcomers to include juniors Subler, Keller, Knapke and sophomore A.J. Ahrens.
“Last year, we mad it to the playoffs,” Miller said. “Our goal for this year is get back to the playoffs and make a longer run in the playoffs. We have 10 seniors to lead us, which is a great start.”
Look for the Tigers to continue to emphasize the running game, led by the return of Peters — who is coming off a big junior year.
“We pride ourselves on our running game and defense,”” Miller said. “Collin Peters had 1,500 yards rushing last year. He is getting a lot of attention from Ivy League and MAC schools. Corey Dieringer and Kyle Gigandet had a lot of experience and will be key this season.”
The Tigers still have to replace some key losses from a year ago.
“The seniors from last season left some big shoes to fill,” Miller said. “So, we are looking for the guys taking those positions to shorten the learning curve as much as possible.”
