Former Versailles state champion Sam Prakel has been named Pac-12 male athlete of the week in track and field.

Prakel, a red-shirt junior on the Oregon men’s track and field team, anchored a pair of winning relays for the Men of Oregon at the Penn Relays, providing big final kicks in both races to help secure a pair of wheels and the Pac-12 men’s track athlete of the week award.

On Friday, Prakel’s final kick helped the Ducks take home the title in the men’s distance-medley relay with a winning time of 9:32.61. On Saturday in the 4xMile relay, Prakel ran his leg in 4:04.70 to secure the win for the Ducks in 16:21.81. Prakel was named the Penn Relays men’s college athlete of the meet for his efforts.

Piqua camp

set for June

There will be a Piqua girls basketball camp from May 31 to June 2.

A camp for grades K-4 will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. at Washington Primary school, while camp for grades 5-8 will be from noon-2 p.m. at Piqua High School.

Instruction will be provided by Piqua coaching staff, with t-shirts for all campers and and contests and awards, along with daily competitive games.

Cost is $20 and the deadline to register and be guaranteed a shirt is May 26.

Same-day registration begins 30 minutes before camp on May 31.

Miami East High School is looking for a high school girls golf coach for this fall season.

Covington taking

Hall nominations

In 1984 the Covington Athletic Department initiated an Athletic Hall of Fame to honor those Covington graduates who have distinguished themselves in athletics.

Over the past thirty-four years, C.H.S. has inducted 81 members, 33 honorary members and six teams. This coming year marks the 35th year for this event.

Next year’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on September 1. The ceremony itself will take place at

half-time of the varsity football game with the Minster Wildcats.

The Hall of Fame induction will take place at approximately 8 p.m.

The football game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm.

Anyone wishing to submit a nomination should do so with a letter to the Athletic Director detailing as much information as

possible about the potential inductee.

Deadline for nominations is May 10.

Lehman, Sidney

sports physicals

Sports physicals for both Sidney High School and Lehman Catholic junior high and high school student athletes are scheduled for Tuesday, May 9.

The physicals will take place at Lehman Catholic High School and will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. that evening. Students should enter at Door 10, between the main gym and chapel on the west side of the building.

Sports physicals are available to all current and incoming 7th – 12th grade students who plan on participating in an athletic sport during the 2017-2018 school year.

There is a $15 fee that student athletes should bring with them. Please contact your student’s school for additional information regarding paperwork or online forms that must be completed prior to the May 9 physicals.

Holy Angels

3v3 tourney

The first Holy Angels Parish Picnic 3v3 soccer tournament will be held June 24 at Lehman Catholic High School.

Games will begin at 1:30 p.m. and end around 8:30 p.m.

The minimum roster is four players and the maximum is five.

Open to both genders and all ages — oldest player will determine teams division.

Entry fee is $75 and entry deadline is June 1.
