Former Covington state champion and University of Akron junior Jackie Siefring registered the fourth-best score in the country in 2017 en route to winning the pentathlon with a five-event cumulative total of 4,204, to direct the efforts of the Zips’ track and field teams on the opening night of the Akron Invitational orecently at the Stile Athletics Field House.
Siefring captured the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.58 and then placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-4.75. She finished second in the shot put (39-10.25) before taking home triumphs in the long jump (19-10) and the 800 meters (2:16.43) to close out the competition.
She followed that up on Saturday by running on the winning the women’s 4×400 relay for Akron in 3:46.65.
Siefring teamed with Kiara Chatman, Daziah Green and Dimitra Gnafaki.

Former Covington standout Tara Snipes is a teammate of Siefring’s at Akron and had a solid day as well.
Snipes finished sixth in the 800, 2:14.64; and teamed with Haley Hess, Victoria Stachowski and Alyssa Thomas for fifth place in the distance medley, 12:37.25.
