KETTERING — The Versailles boys basketball team picked up an impressive win in the Flyin’ To the Hoops Tournament Monday, defeating Tri-Village 61-56.

Versailles had taken an 18-10 first quarter lead, before Tri-Village closed to 31-27 at halftime.

The Tigers opened the lead back up to 44-36 after three quarters and held on for the win.

Justin Ahrens had 26 points and nine rebounds for Versailles, while Keaton McEldowney added 13 points and AJ Ahrens had three blocked shots.

Trace Couch had 24 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for Tri-Village, while Gavin Richaards added 19 points.

Versailles was 21 of 47 from the floor for 45 percent, including six of 15 from behind the arc for 40 percent. The Tigers made just 13 of 27 free throws for 48 percent.

Tri-Village was 19 of 46 from the floor for 41 percent, including five of 14 from behind the arc for 39 percent. The Patriots made 13 of 17 free throws for 77 percent.

Versailles returns to MAC action Friday at Fort Recovery.

TIPP CITY — It was everything it was expected to be Monday night when Versailles, the fourth-ranked team in the first D-III state poll, traveled to Tippecanoe — a Division II power.

The game was tied in the final 40 seconds before Taylor Prall made the winning basket to give Tipp a 46-44 victory.

Versailles had led 27-23 at halftime, but trailed 36-33 after three quarters.

Prall led Tippecanoe, 11-2, with 23 points.

Kami McEldowney paced Versailles, 13-2, with 13 points.

Versailles will return to MAC action Thursday, traveling to Fort Recovery.

SWIMMING

Local swimmers

do well at Classic

CINCINNATI — Several local swimmer competed in the final of the prestigious Southwest Classic Monday.

Piqua’s Corinne Tisher finished 28th in 1,650 freestyle in 19:53.77.

Versailles’ Pauton Berger finished 15th in the 50 breaststroke, 35.05.

Miami East had two swimmers at finals.

Meredith Richters finished 15th in the 100 breaststroke, 1:10.74; and 21st in the 400 individual medley, 4:51.20.

McKenna Bollinger finished 24th in the 1,650 freestyle in 19:34.36; and 45th in the 400 individual medley, 5:12.11.
