It will be a busy day Saturday as local volleyball and soccer teams look to win district titles and advance to the Sweet 16.
Both Miami East and Versailles will be in action at Northmont High School.
Miami East will play Roger Bacon at 4:30 p.m., followed by Versailles and Hamilton Badin at 6 p.m.
Lehman and Russia will play in a Troy D-IV district final at 5 p.m.
While the Cavaliers advanced with a five-set win over Catholic Central, Russia upset Southeastern in four sets last Saturday.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better game,” said Russia coach Aaron Watkins said about that match. “We had to earn every point tonight. The girls stepped up when they needed to, and it’s a huge confidence boost for them.”
Cameo Wilson had 18 kills and Laurissa Poling added 14 kills for Russia. Wilson also had nine digs, and Poling seven blocks and four aces.
Chris Gaerke added eight kills and Morgan Wenrick seven.
Whitney Pleiman came up big, with 34 digs and eight service aces.
Jenna Cordonnier had 40 asists, seven digs and four blocks, Lexi Monnin had 12 digs, Chloe Sherman 11 digs and Katie Swartz seven digs.
D-III Girls Soccer
Lehman will play Madeira in a D-III district championship game at 1 p.m.
The Lady Cavaliers and Amazons tied in the first game of the year — a game that was stopped at halftime by the weather.
Lehman advanced with a 5-1 win over Miami East Tuesday.
D-III Boys Soccer
SIDNEY — No. 11 Newton got its second shot at Troy Christian Monday night in the Division II sectional title game at Sidney High School, but in the end the second-seeded Eagles proved to be too much again, winning 2-0.
Jared Trimbach scored both goals for the Eagles (15-1-2).
