TROY — Several Piqua athletes qualified for the GWOC All-Star track and field meet tonight at Troy at the GWOC North meet Wednesday.
Piqua boys and girls are both currently in sixth place in the GWOC North.
Andy Mayse won the 1,600 in 4:20.24 to advance to the All-Star meet and also finished third in the 400, 51.67 to advance.
Tristen Cox advanced in both the shot put and discus.
Cox won the discus, 145-8; and finished second in the shot put, 46-7.
On the girls side, Ashley Ho advanced to Friday by winning the shot put, 5-1.
The 800 and 3,200 will also be run on Friday.
FORT RECOVERY — The Versailles boys and girls track and field teams are off to a good start in the MAC meet.
In the boys finals held Tuesday, Josh Steinbrunner had a second-place finish in the high jump, 6-0; while the 3,200 relay (Trevor Noggle, Noah Pleiman, Brooks Blakeley, Joe Spitzer) won in 8:23.07.
Steinbrunner also had the fastest qualifying times for tonight’s finals in the 110 hurdles, 15.42; and 300 hurdles, 41.30.
On the girls side, Jenna Frantz had a strong showing.
Frantz won the pole vault, 12-1; and finished second in the long jump, 16-9 1-4.
Lindsey Didier won the discus, 102-6.
Lady Tigers with the fastest qualifying time for tonight’s finals were Haley Winner, 100, 13.22; Cassie Peters, 200, 27.83; and the 400 relay (Cassie Peters, Ellen Peters, Frantz, Haley Winner), 52.15.
Falls pick up wins
SIDNEY — Russia and Houston both had some early success in the SCAL meet at Fairlawn.
Winning for Russia girls on Wednesday was the 3,200 relay (Shaelyn Goubeaux, Molly Kearns, Megan Frazier, Grace York), 9:47.57; while Lauren Heaton was the fast qualifier to tonight’s finals in the 100, 12.8; 200, 26.19; and 400, 59.78.
For Houston girls, Caity Falls was the winner of the high jump, 5-0.
For Russia boys, Cole Tebbe was the fast qualifier in the 110 hurdles, 16.19; and Weston Lavy was the fast qualifier in the 400, 52.89.
For Houston boys, Derrek Mayse was the fast qualifier in the 300 hurdles, 42.69.
