Hovercrafts return to city

RoyerStaff Writerbroyer@civitasmedia.comPIQUA — Once again the Hoverclub of America will descend upon the Great Miami River beginning Friday, July 18 (See schedule at end of story) in downtown Piqua.This will be the second year for the Hoverally event to be held around the bridge and “bowl” of the river, which should please both racers and eager-viewing crowds. As racers and cruisers will float a mere 10 inches above either water or land, and will include a host of hovercrafts from commercial to homemade such as those constructed by Edison Community college students, and Sidney Big Brother, Little Brother pair Mark Curtner and Tylor Hawk.


Summerfest set at fairgrounds

Child hit by car in Piqua

Medics from the Piqua Fire Department and bystanders tend to a young girl who was injured when she was struck by a vehicle in the 600 block of South Main Street on Thursday afternoon. The driver of a northbound SUV told police that the girl ran out in front of him, in the vicinity of Bennett Intermediate School, around 2 p.m. The girl was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center for treatment of a leg injury. The crash is under investigation by the Piqua Police Department.
