MIAMI COUNTY — Miami County Foundation reminds Miami County high school seniors and graduates the deadline for submitting scholarship applications is November 1. The Thelma Ross Dalton Memorial Scholarship is for any resident to further their post-high school education in any accredited college, trade/vocational or nursing/health related facility. Miami County Medical Society Scholarship is awarded to a resident who has been accepted into or currently attending medical school and pursuing an approved course of study to become a Medical Doctor (M.D.) or a Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, fellowships are not considered. The Marjorie Lyons Netzley Scholarship will be awarded to a resident who pursues a health/medical related degree.
The recipient may qualify to renew the scholarship.
The Miami County Foundation administers and distributes scholarships annually. A committee comprised of Miami County Foundation board members and residents will select recipients. Applications for all these scholarships are available online at www.miamicountyfoundation.org, high schools or by phoning the Miami County Foundation office at 773-9012.
Cemetery clean-up slated
NEWBERRY TOWNSHIP — Fall cemetery clean-up will run from Oct. 1-14.
Please remove all decorations that you wish to save by Oct. 14 in all cemeteries maintained by Newberry Township. The cemetery staff will begin removing old arrangements Monday, Oct. 17. New fall arrangements in vases attached to monuments or fall saddles will not be removed. Other new arrangements may be placed Nov. 1. Newberry Township cemeteries are:
Highland — High Street, Covington
Greenville Creek — Buckneck Road, Bradford
Freidens — Corner of Versailles and Bradford-Bloomer Road, Bradford
Union Church — Union Church Road, Covington
Arnold — State Route 36, Covington
Priest — McMaken Road, Covington
Johnson — State Route 41, Covington
Lutheran Church — Miami-Shelby County Line Road, Covington.
All artificial arrangements must be in a vase, hanging device, or on a monument saddle. Please put the deceased name and a contact person on the bottom of a saddle (in a permanent manner) so identification can be made if it is blown off the monument.
Princess For A Day planned
CASSTOWN — Miami East High School’s FFA and Pride In M.E. welcome young girls of all ages to attend a Princess For A Day on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Miami East High School cafeteria. Princesses are asked to arrive at 2:30, 3, 3:30 or 4 p.m. No reservations are needed.
A $10 cash fee per princess will be accepted at the door. All proceeds benefit the March of Dimes.
All princesses are encouraged to dress in a princess dress as they learn everything it takes to be a princess, including: hair, make-up, nails, healthy snacks, walking the runway and more. Each princess will be given a tiara.
Girls of all ages are welcome with parental supervision.
Come help improve young girls’ self-esteem while making a supporting to the March of Dimes and the fight against pre-mature births.
