PIQUA - The Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce served as the dining room for a special luncheon on Monday, August 11th. The event was to welcome 30 new teachers from both Piqua City Schools and Piqua Catholic for the 2014-2015 academic year, many of whom are new to the Piqua area. The luncheon was co- sponsored by Sterling House of Piqua who provided a delicious meal. The teachers who attended were also given a Welcome bag with gifts and discounts from area Chamber businesses.

Kathy Sherman, President of the Piqua Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the teachers and offered the use of the chamber as a resource for them. She also spoke of the academic events that the Piqua Chamber sponsors such as “Leadership Piqua”, “Teen Leadership” and the “Top 100 Scholastic Awards Banquet”.

The group was also addressed by Bill Lutz of the Piqua United Way, who gave a brief history of the United Way in Piqua and the importance of the Piqua City School and Piqua Catholic School’s participation in the UW campaign.

Also attending the event was Dave Larson, Assistant Superintendent, Piqua City Schools. Mr. Larson was there to meet, greet and welcome this bright group of new educators.

The luncheon was in conjunction with a 3-day “welcome” arranged by Piqua City Schools that included a tour of Piqua and a scavenger hunt to local businesses. The events were planned to help the new teachers feel welcome and at home.
