TROY — A Piqua man extradited from Georgia to answer to sex charges involving a 15-year-old girl received a prison sentence Monday at his common pleas court hearing.
James V. Barnett, 47, received a prison sentence of 54 months and was also labeled as a tier II sex offender, which means he must register as such twice each year for the next 25 years in the county where he resides and works.
Barnett was convicted of two counts of unlawful sexual conduct involving a minor, which are felonies of the third-degree. Those charges were amended down from rape.
According to court documents, Barnett committed the offenses between Oct. 1, 2013, though January with a 15-year-old victim that he was already acquainted with.
Court documents also show he was convicted of committing a lewd act involving a child under the age of 14 in California in 1995.
