MIAMI COUNTY — Miami County’s young equestrians kept their horses in the barn as they got down and dirty during a morning full of fun, laughs and a few tumbles in the horse arena during their annual Super Stars Fun Day at the Miami County Fair.

On Friday, the horse arena was full of activity as Miami County’s 4-H horse clubs battled for bragging rights as they wrapped up their fun day as they took their turns riding on the “Pony Express.”

Victoria Hager, 15, of New Carlisle, cheered on her team and 4-H club — The Galloping Gauchos.

“Super Stars is just a fun day of being out here without the horses and making memories together,” Hager said.

Hager is the president of the Galloping Gauchos 4-H Club.

“There aren’t horses involved, it’s just us,” Hager said. “It’s fun to watch people fall or mess up and just laugh at ourselves.”

Hager also enjoys the camaraderie and teamwork part of Super Stars.

“Everybody had a part and we all share our ideas,” Hager said.

Frankie Jones, 19, of St. Paris, participated in her last Super Stars Fun Day as a 4-H club member and said she enjoys bringing her horse to the fair — and fair food.

“My favorite part is letting him walk around and try fair food - he likes anything with ketchup,” Jones said.

Jones said her favorite part of Super Stars is seeing her club adviser Mary Ann Weber get excited during the events.

“She really gets to hollering at us,” said Jones of her beloved adviser.

Weber joked with her 4-H club kids, giving them each a hug. Weber said it was her 39th year of being a 4-H club adviser.

Katelyn Rose, 11, is the president of Boots and Saddles 4-H club and said she loves participating in Pony Express each year.

“There’s so many different activities to do in it,” Rose said.

Rose said she enjoys showing horses at the Miami County Fair.

“Being in the ring and just seeing everybody’s horses is fun,” Rose said.

Beef Fun Day will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the cattle show ring. Sheep/Goat Fun Day will also be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the sheep arena.

Liz Renner, 15, of Laura, said she likes ‘horsin’ around with her friends and 4-H members during Super Stars.

“The wheelbarrow races are my favorite because people fall over,” she said. “I like Super Star Fun Day because I don’t have to wear show clothes.”
