CASSTOWN — A Casstown teenager on his way home from school helped a motorist move to safety following a single car accident Tuesday afternoon.
David Garrison, 57, was the lone occupant of the vehicle which was traveling southbound on Hufford Road near the State Route 41 intersection. Garrison lost control of the vehicle, veered off the roadway and struck a culvert around 2:42 p.m Tuesday, according to Miami County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mike Whaley. Lt. Whaley said they believe Garrison suffered from medical incident which caused the incident.
Garrison suffered a severe broken ankle and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Elizabeth Township Medics.
Whaley confirmed reports that 16 year-old Jordan Crawford assisted Garrison out of the vehicle before it caught fire. Crawford then helped Garrison move farther away from the scene of the accident when the vehicle became engulfed by flames.
Casstown Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene and contained the vehicle fire in about 15 minutes.
