Two records were set at the Wednesday evening Miami County Junior Fair champion livestock sale

MIAMI COUNTY — Local businesses and community members came out in droves to help support the hard work and celebrate the best of the animal barns at this year’s Miami County Fair’s Sale of Champions.

Dale Stager, owner of Select Arc Inc., purchased both the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion market steers at the sale on Wednesday.

“My kids and grand kids all raised steers so I know how hard it is to raise a good one,” Stager said.

The Grand Champion Market steer was exhibited by Kassidy Thompson, of Troy, and was purchased for $5,200.

The Reserve Grand Champion market steer was exhibited by Seth Clark, of Covington, and was purchased for $4,000.

Brodi Voight of Tipp City exhibited the Grand Champion market goat. Alvetro Orthodontics brought the animal for $1,400.

Waiting in line for her turn to enter the sale ring, Voight, 14, and a student at Bethel High School, shared how she enjoyed showing “Sloan” at the county fair.

“It was very fun to win,” Voight said. “It was definitely my goal for this year.”

Howard Cheney kicked off the sale with a record breaking $3,000 for the grand champion market pen of 3 rabbits. The project was exhibited by Abigail Kadel of Casstown.

“I missed the chickens this year, but I hope they have a good sale,” Cheney said. “I’ve come to the sale for 40 plus years and it’s great to support all these great kids.”

• Colin Tackett, of Pleasant Hill, Reserve Grand Champion market rabbit pen of 3, was purchased for $1,600 by Unity National Bank, Shirbyz Party Rental.

• Colin Tackett, of Pleasant Hill, Grand Champion single market rabbit, was purchased for $1,100 by the Miami County Farm Bureau.

• Anthony Naff, of Pleasant Hill, Reserve Grand Champion single market rabbit, was purchased for $1,100 by Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home.

• Brodi Voight, of Tipp City, Grand Champion market goat, was purchased for $1,400 by Alvetro Orthodontics

• Adam Bensmen, of Troy, Reserve Grand Champion market goat, was purchased for $1,200 by Tom and Cindy Lillicrap of Piqua.

• Colin Gump, of Fletcher, Grand Champion Pen of 2 market lambs, was purchased for $1,000 by Hart’s Automotive Towing and Recovery of Fletcher

• Chloe Gump, of Fletcher, Reserve Grand Champion Pen of 2 market lambs, was purchased for $1,100 by Mike Fearon with Nationwide Insurance

• Colin Gump, of Fletcher, Grand Champion Market lamb, was purchased for $1,850 by Mike Fearon-Nationwide, Shirbyz Party Rental, Mike’s Barn and Yard, Bohrer Show Lambs, Lynn Alan Farms, Preston Elifritz and Family, Hart’s Automotive Towing and Recovery.

• Carly Gump, of Fletcher, Grand Champion Market lamb, was purchased for $1,000 by Team Johnson Show Lambs.

• Dylon Bayman, of Piqua, Grand Champion Market barrow, was purchased for $4,200 in memory of Tom Gearhardt,Bobbi Gearhardt,John Gearhardt and Robert Bayman, Joe Johnson Chevrolet, State Rep. Steve Huffman, Miami County Republican Party, Congressman John Boehner, John Ryman, Quality Landscape, Senator Bill Beagle, Troy Elevator, Jim Routzahn, 4W Feed Supply, Dan Hemm Auto Mall, Sherry Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Ram, McVety Realty, Mike Havenar Auctioneer and Appraiser, Bayman Auto Sales, Anthony Bayman Auctioneer and Appraisal, Mike Fearon, Nationwide, Dan and Vicky Fiely.

• Hunter Sharp, of Troy, Grand Champion Market dairy beef steer, was purchased for $1,100 by Kenny and Jenny Wheelock and Kevin Mote Petroleum

• Caitlyn Cobb, of New Carlisle, Reserve Grand Champion dairy beef steer, was purchased for $1,850, by Miami Valley Feed and Grain, Erwins, Rumpke, Auto Plus, Afford-A-Car, Mike Elsass Family, P.A.W.L.S LLC, Gail Blackburn-Realtor, Kenny Wheelock, D & L Plumbing
