• SALAD LUNCHEON: The Women’s Fellowship of the Covington Christian Church will again have salad luncheons on the third Friday of each of the next five months. The lunch includes a large assortment of homemade salads, desserts and finger sandwiches from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Diners can enjoy the specialty, “hot chicken salad.” A drink is included for $6. • PULLED PORK: The Pleasant Hill VFW Post 6557, 7578 W. Fenner Road, Ludlow Falls, will offer a pulled pork sandwich and baked beans for $8 from 6-7:30 p.m.

• FARMERS MARKET: The Miami County Farmer’s Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its new location, Lowe’s parking lot. Regular early offerings will be available.

• OLD COUNTRY: The People Of The Ohio Country will be at the Overfield Tavern Museum, 201 E. Water St., Troy, from 1-5 p.m. There will be demonstrations in the backyard of the museum of everyday activities such as cooking, fabric dying, leather craft and other skills common to pioneer life on the Ohio Frontier. • RUN/WALK: The Covington Outreach Association will be hosting it’s Eighth annual COA 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m. On-site same day registration will be $20 (with no T-shirt provided) on the morning of the race beginning at 7 a.m. The 5K Scenic River Run/Walk will begin near Stillwater Community Church, 7900 West Sugar Grove, Covington, at the intersection of Sugar Grove and Owens Road. • PORK CHOPS: The Pleasant Hill VFW Post 6557, 7578 W. Fenner Road, Ludlow Falls, will offer a marinated pork chop (non-marinated pork chops available upon request) dinner with baked potato and corn for $9 from 5-7 p.m.

• NIGHT HIKE: Brukner Nature Center will have a night hike at 9 p.m. at the center. Exploring the BNC woods during the day can be fun but being able to explore at night is an adventure. Join a BNC naturalist as you take off into the woods. Free and open to the public.

• PUBLIC STAR GAZE: Join the Stillwater Stargazers and explore the starry night sky at 10 p.m. at Brukner Nature Center. Members will have their telescopes set up to answer questions. This program is free and open to the public, following the night hike.

• SHRED FEST: Shred Fest 2015 will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Miami County Fairgrounds, 650 N. County Road 25-A, Troy.

• FREE MOVIE: A young woman discovers her destiny as an heiress of intergalactic nobility and must fight to protect the inhabitants of Earth from an ancient and destructive industry in this free film at the Milton-Union Public Library’s “Movie Matinee.”

• RIBS: The Troy Fish & Game will offer barbecued ribs beginning at 6 p.m.

• OPEN HOUSE: The West Milton Fire Department will have an open house and car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the station. Visitors can come tour the station and look through the fire trucks. Those interested can get their car washed, with all donations going to the John Schultz Christmas Fund to help local families in need during the holidays.

• KARAOKE: American Legion Post 586, Tipp City, will host karaoke from 7 p.m. to close.

Sunday

• VIEW FROM THE VISTA: Brukner Nature Center will be having its View from the Vista from 2-4 p.m. Come discover Brukner Nature Center’s vista bird life and join members of the BNC Bird Club as you learn to identify our feathered friends. So come on out, enjoy the camaraderie in the third story window on wildlife. All levels of birders welcome. (Really good binoculars available for use.) Free and open to the public.

• DOG SOCIAL: The Miami County Park District will hold its monthly dog social “Working Dogs” from 1-3 p.m. at Lost Creek Reserve, 2645 E. State Route 41, east of Troy. There will be a live sheep herding demonstration with special guest Chris Thompson, his wonderful border collies and real sheep. Remember owners are responsible for their dogs. • MELODY MEN: Covington Church of the Brethren will have the Miami Shelby Melody Men Chorus to sing during the 9:30 a.m. service. They are an all male a capella vocal singing group singing in the Barbershop style of music. There will be a free will offering taken to support the Covington Outreach Association. • TINY TOTS: Doctors can be heroes, too! That’s the theme for Tiny Tots today from 1-1:30 p.m. at the Milton-Union Public Library in West Milton. This program is an interactive opportunity for children from newborns to preschoolers and their caretakers to hear stories, play games, sing songs, and do other activities with children’s librarian Wendy Heisey.

• QUARTER AUCTION: The American Legion Post 586, Tipp City, will host a quarter auction from 6-9 p.m. The charity for this auction will be the American Legion Post No. 586. Food will be available from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

• OHIO HEROES: Ohio has many heroes and some of them are from Miami County. Join participants at the Oakes-Beitman Memorial Library in Pleasant Hill at 6:30 p.m. Patrick Kennedy, archivist at the Local History Library in Troy, will present a program about heroes from our area. • KIWANIS MEETING: The Troy Kiwanis will meet at noon at the Troy Country Club. A membership luncheon will be held. Doug Trembley will be speaking on the Museum of Troy History.

• SUPERHERO ADVENTURE: Children of all ages can come to the Pleasant Hill Library at 1 p.m. and enjoy a story, craft and her activity. The event will be held every Wednesday.

• SUPERHERO TRAINING: Milton-Union Public Children’s Librarian hosts an outdoors “Superhero Training Camp” today at the library. Children can come in their own costumes and run through a series of obstacles to enhance their own superhero powers. The training starts at 1:30 p.m.

• BOOK GROUP: What happens when animal attacks turn coordinated and deadly? Explore this idea in the James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge thriller “Zoo” and then join the “Escape the Ordinary” book club discussion at the Milton-Union Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Extra book copies are available at the display inside the library.

• BAND CONCERT: The Piqua Civic Band will conclude its summer concert season on July 23 at Hance Pavilion under the direction of conductor Brett Poling. The band will be joined by vocalists from Music Warehouse for a tribute to The Mills Brothers. • NIGHT OF DISCOVERY: This summer, get a close up look at some of Ohio’s amazing nocturnal creatures from 7-10 p.m. at Brukner Nature Center. Participants will learn about bats and the bugs they love to munch on and even try their hand at using echolocation. The fireflies that light up the night will give participants a great show as we hike around and learn how to tell these fascinating flashing insects apart. Bring your kindergarten through fifth graders and have a free night to yourselves while we keep the kids busy discovering what creatures fly around at night. The fee for this Night of Discovery is $10 for BNC members and $15 for non-members. Registration and payment are due by 5 p.m. July 20.

Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 20 registered. Registration prizes, shelter, food and drink will be available.
