TROY — A Piqua man who got into an argument with a female acquaintance and knocked a lit candle over in a home located in the 800 block of Garbry Road on Tuesday evening is now facing some serious criminal charges for a fire he allegedly caused as a result.

Don K. Meeks, 22, was arraigned in Miami County Municipal Court on Wednesday on a felony count of arson and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing official business.

He remains in the Miami County Jail on a combined bond of $27,000.

If convicted as charged of arson, a fourth-degree felony, he faces between six to 18 months in prison.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 25.

Firefighters responded to 819 Garbry Road on Tuesday evening and once they arrived the fire was a “fully engulfed structure fire,” according to the Piqua Fire Department.

Fire crews later brought the fire under control about an hour later.

No injuries were reported and the arson fire case is still under investigation.
