TROY - A Monday afternoon crash at the intersection of State Route 41 and Washington Road has claimed the life of a Covington-area resident.

Miami County Sheriff’s Office reports that they received a call of a motor vehicle crash at 12:31 p.m. Preliminary crash reconstruction reports indicate that a 2004 Buick sedan operated by Melinda S. Flory, 61, of State Route 718, near Covington, was northbound on Washington Road at the intersection of State Route 41 when it was struck broadside by a 2010 Toyota Scion that was traveling east on State Route 41. The Scion was operated by Rachel B. Davis, 25, of near Piqua.

Paramedics and firefighters attempted to resuscitate Flory but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Davis suffered no apparent injuries but was transported by Troy fire department medics to Upper Valley Medical Center to be checked.

The sheriff’s office is requesting anyone who may have witnessed the crash to please call Deputy Todd Tennant at 937-440-6085, ext. 7009 or the Miami County Communications Center at 937-440-9911.

The crash remains under investigation.
