TROY — A Troy man who brandished a knife to a drive thru clerk before making off with money on foot last year faced a judge in common pleas court Monday at his sentencing hearing.

James R. Coots, 43, of Troy, was ordered to serve the next 11 years behind prison bars and after he serves that time he will then be placed on a five-year term of post-release control.

Coots was convicted of the aggravated robbery of the Stone Circle Drive Thru & Deli, 2858 S. County Road 25-A, which took place in June.

Authorities said Coots entered the business on June 29 wearing a hoody and displayed a large knife to an employee, who handed over an undisclosed amount of money that Coots made off with on foot.

Coots received the maximum sentence in the case for his conviction of the first-degree felony.

A jury heard heard the case and returned a guilty verdict against Coots on Dec. 5.

There were no reported injuries as a result of the aggravated robbery.
