LCC to offer basketball

TROY — Registration for basketball for children ages 5-18 (still enrolled in school) will run through Monday, March 26.

Games are played on Saturdays in the LCC gym through Saturday, May 19. Teams will practice either on Monday or Tuesday evenings on alternating weeks.

The fee is $25 per player and includes a T-shirt. Volunteer coaches, referees and scoreboard keepers are encouraged to call the office for more information at 335-2715.

ACS volunteers sought

PIQUA — Marybeth Torsell, an American Cancer Society Road to Recovery spokesperson, will discuss volunteer opportunities for adults on Wednesday, April 4, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the YWCA Piqua. The class is free and the public is invited to attend.

“The biggest challenge for some individuals needing cancer treatments is getting there,” said Torsell. “The American Cancer Society helps to coordinate volunteers to provide this life-saving transportation to and from treatment to patients in need. The transportation is free for patients and we are looking for volunteer drivers to help.”

MS walk upcoming

TROY — The 22nd annual WalkMS: Miami County will be held at 2 p.m. April 8, in Troy during MS Awareness Week.

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. with team pictures. Walkers turning in $100 prior to or day of the event will receive a short-sleeved T-shirt.

Opening ceremonies begin at 1:45 p.m. with the walk following. The three-mile walk is followed by light refreshments and a raffle drawing for many special prizes.

Raffle tickets are available from committee members and at the stadium prior to the start of the walk. Tickets sell for $1 each or six for $5. Prizes are available for immediate pick-up that day after walking. Winners need not be present to win.

Yoga classes to be held

PIQUA — Join Katie Nardecchia for a five-week session of yoga at the YWCA Piqua beginning April 9. Classes will run from 6:15-7:30 p.m. on Monday nights.

Nardecchia also will instruct a five-week course in “cardio” yoga from 6:15-7:30 p.m. Wednesday nights, beginning April 11.

Throughout the classes, a variety of “asanas,” (postures), will be taught and practiced. Some of these postures are seated and some are standing, Nardecchia said.

A special spring price of $30 for each five-week session is available.

YWCA road trip planned

PIQUA — Join travel escorts Leesa Baker and Beth Royer-DeLong for a trip to The Mazza Museum in Findlay and The Children’s Garden in Lima on Tuesday, May 22. The group will depart at 9 a.m. and return at 5 p.m.

The first stop will be at the Mazza Museum in Findlay. The museum is devoted to artwork from children’s literature around the world including paintings, photography, paper-cut, cross stitching and numerous artists’ award-winning graphic techniques.

Lunch will be a bistro selection of foods at the Gillig Winery before enjoying a guided tour of The Children’s Museum in Lima, where there are more than 30 mini-themed gardens featuring art inspired by children and maintained by Master Gardeners.

Prices are available for YWCA members and non-members. All gratuities for lunch and the bus driver are included in the cost. A $10 deposit is due with registration, with the balance due on Tuesday, April 10.
