AVA walks upcoming

PIQUA — The American Volkssport Association (AVA: America’s Walking Club) is coming to Piqua on Saturday, June 24. The free event, consisting of three 5K walking routes (you don’t have to walk them all), will start at Winans Chocolates + Coffee at 310 Spring St. All participants are invited to start walking any time between 9 a.m. and noon and to be finished by 3 p.m.

AVA walkers from throughout the area and state will be in Piqua to walk and see the city but the walk event is open to the public. While AVA walkers will walk for “credit” (events walked, distance walked, and other programs) the event is free and open to the public, but all walkers will need to register.

This event will be held rain or shine. The route directions and maps will be available at Winans that morning. The Piqua walk event and other AVA events are non-competitive, self-paced walks through a community along sanctioned routes.

This event is sponsored by the Ohio Wander Fruende (OWF) – a walking club from Fairborn. The OWF, the oldest AVA club in Ohio, is a sanctioned club that is a member of the American Volkssport Association (AVA). The AVA – America’s Walking Club organization and their clubs sponsor more than 3,000 events annually in all 50 states.

Please contact Dawn Gruber at (937) 409-6975 for additional information, even on the day of the event.
