Toys for Tots locations set

MIAMI COUNTY — The Western Ohio Detachment of the Marine Corps League is again sponsoring the “Toys for Tots” drive in the Miami County area. Loca residents can help make Christmas merry for the less fortunate children in the community by donating toys.

New, unwrapped toys may be placed in boxes at the following locations: The Piqua Fire Department, Piqua Dollar General Stores (both locations), Edward Jones Investments (225 N. Main St.), Piqua Manor, Heartland of Piqua, Piqua American Legion, Piqua Public Library (Children’s Department), Main Optical, Heartland Federal Credit Union, and Piqua Harley-Davidson.

Toys should be dropped off by Dec. 15.

Qualification for and distribution of the toys in Piqua will be handled by The Piqua Salvation Army. All toys collected in Piqua will be distributed locally.

Saturday Night Live offered

TROY — The Miami County YMCA Robinson Branch is offering a Saturday Night Live Event on Saturday, Dec. 3 for youth in first through sixth grade. This will be a fun filled night with swimming, gym games, a bounce house, and a movie. Pizza and lemonade will be served during the movie time. Drop off begins at 7 p.m. and pick up is at 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $10 for members and $16 for non-members.

Kiwanis meetings slated

PIQUA ― The Piqua Kiwanis Club has scheduled the following meetings for December:

Dec. 7: Ohio Department of Transportation with Ryan Noll, transportation manager

Dec. 14: Brukner’s Nature Center with naturalist from Brukner

Dec. 21: Christmas message from Kiwanis Spiritual Aims Committee

Dec. 28: No meeting

YWCA classes planned

PIQUA — Join Katie Nardecchia for the new two-week session of yoga at the YWCA Piqua beginning Dec. 5. Classes will run from 6:15-7:30 p.m. on Monday nights.

“Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual discipline originating in ancient India. The goal of Yoga is the attainment of a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquility and the ultimate improvement of one’s health,” said Nardecchia.

She also will teach the new two-week session of “card” yoga at the YWCA beginning Dec. 7. Classes will run from 6:15-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights.

Dea Davis will teach a four-week “Healthy Moves” class beginning Dec. 5, from 11 a.m. to noon. “The class will focus on improving balance, relaxation and breathing,” said Davis. “The movements will be gentle, smooth and continuous with emphasis on gaining strength and better balance.”
