Harold Louis ‘Hal’ and Estelle Agnes (Mooney) Heiner of Piqua are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.
They were married July 3, 1949, in the oldest cathedral in the United States at St. Augustine, Fla., by Fr. Bartok and Fr. Love.
The couple are parents of six children, Harold L. Heiner Jr. and Sheila of Louisville, Ky., Theresa and Craig Lewis of Nashville, Tenn., Patricia A. Heiner of Piqua, Susan and Howard E. Hendershott III of Knoxville, Tenn., Steven A. and Donna Heiner of Fogelsville, Pa., and Nancy and Kevin L. Walker of Falls Church, Va. They have 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II in 1945-46 and played pro baseball from 1947-1951. He also attended the University of Alabama from 1949-1953; worked at GE from 1953-1970 and at Copeland from 1970-1984. He began Sofame in 1984 and retired in 1992.
Mr. Heiner was a member of the Miami County Board of MRDD for 15 years, served eight years with the OACBDD; served on the PPP for three years; was prior president of Lehman School board and served on the Lehman Foundation, was a Wickliffe city councilman, and is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mrs. Heimer graduated from NYU Bellevue as a Registered Nurse in 1949, working in hospitals and as a Red Cross nurse for many years. She joined the Piqua City Schools staff in 1973, received a bachelor of science in health education at Central State in 1978; and continued nursing and hygiene teaching until her retirement in 1985. She is a member of the Bellevue Alumnae Association, Central State Association, Piqua Columbia Club, and St. Mary Altar Society.
The couple are members at St. Mary Church and are members of the Piqua Foundation and the Lehman Foundation.
They will celebrate their anniversary at Hilton Head in August.
