Amazing Grace Day Camp and Vacation Bible School

PIQUA — Amazing Grace Day Camp and St. John’s Lutheran Church’s Vacation Bible School “A Love that Never Ends” will be held Monday, June 29 through Friday, July 3 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 248 Wood Street in Piqua.

Day Camp is a week long camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for those entering first through 7th grade without needing to stay away from home! Lutheran Outdoor Ministries of Ohio (LOMO) will lead the day camp in partnership with St John’s Lutheran Church, Piqua. VBS is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for age 3 through entering Kindergarten.

Each day of camp and VBS is filled with activities that include crafts, singing, games, sports, Bible study, and special events such as Christmas in July and Family Night.

Space is limited, so register early by contacting the church office at 773-3284 for a registration form.

Grapple and A21 Schools Out Picnic

PIQUA — Piqua Baptist Church will be holding a Grapple and A21 Schools Out Picnic on June 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held in the church gym. Contact the church office for more information. Piqua Baptist Church is located at 1402 W. High Street in Piqua can be contacted at (937) 773-4583.

Family History Fair

PIQUA — A Family History Fair will be hosted by congregations of Piqua Ward and Sidney Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Aug. 29. The event will be held at the LDS meetinghouse, located at 470 E. Loy Rd., just east of Piqua.

Those interested in learning about genealogy and searching their family histories are welcome to attend. The event is free to the public.

Registration for the event will be held from 8-9 a.m., with a welcome session from 9-9:15 a.m. Three class sessions will be held as follows:

* First Session — 9:25-10:15 a.m.

FamilySearch for Beginners; Beginning DNA and genealogy: putting the genes into genealogy; If You Don’t Find Grandma on the Internet; Migration Trails to the Ohio.

* Second Session — 10:25-11:15 a.m.

Social Media: Breaking Down Brick Walls; Causes of Death and Death Certificates Advanced Search Strategies at Family Search; Treasures in Township Records.

* Third Session — 11:25 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Social Media: Breaking Down Brick Walls; Beginning DNA and genealogy: putting the genes into genealogy; Advanced Search Strategies at Family Search; Migration Trails to the Ohio.

Presenters will include Amie Bowser Tennant, a professional genealogist for 10 years; Dana Ann Palmer (CG), a board certified genealogist and president of the Warren County Genealogical Society; Peggy Clemens Lauritzen (AG), accredited genealogist; and Stephen McDonald, a medical doctor (MD, FACP) and avid genealogist since childhood. The medical background bears on his presentations of genealogical DNA techniques and the analysis of death certificates.
