PIQUA — Two Piqua businesses fell victim to armed robbery less than six hours apart on Monday, one in the early afternoon, the other later that evening, according to the Piqua Police Department.
The first incident was reported at 1:54 p.m. at the Ulbrich’s store on Wayne Street.
According to Piqua Police Chief Bruce Jamison, the suspect entered the store, displayed a firearm, then handcuffed an employee to a door before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police are searching for a suspect described as a “probably white older male,” approximately 5’8” to 5’10” with a “stocky build.” He was wearing gloves and a “skeleton mask,” along with blue jeans. It is unknown in which direction the suspect went when he fled the store.
Jamison said the department is “still gathering evidence” in connection with the robbery. Still photos from surviellence video at Ulbrich’s have been posted on our website.
At 7 p.m. the same day, police were dispatched to the Sunset Drive Thru, at the corner of Sunset and Commerce drives, on the report of an armed robbery.
Reports indicate that a man entered the business, displayed a firearm, and demanded cash. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The clerk was not harmed.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s and wearing jeans.
Police are continuing their investigation into the Sunset Drive Thru robbery.

A short time later, officers took a man into custody at the Best Western on Scott Drive. The man is being questioned but has not been charged.
