STAUNTON TOWNSHIP — Two candidates vied for one open position as fiscal officer for Staunton Township during Tuesday’s election. Sarah Fine won by 607 votes, according to unofficial results.
Running against Fine was Christine Mumma, who had 154 votes. In total, there were 761 votes.
Fine was appointed to the position of Staunton Township fiscal officer in June after having attended every township meeting since December of last year. She now works with retired fiscal officer Michael DeWeese to learn and understand the position.
Fine said she wants to work with the trustees in a fiscally conservative manner to “ensure that those funds are being spent wisely and in the best interest of residents of Staunton Township.”
She said she learned firsthand the importance of fulfilling her civic duty from her father, Norm Osting, who was a Staunton Township trustee for 30 years.
Married to her husband Ryan for 16 years, Fine and her husband have three children attending Miami East Elementary School.
