PIQUA — A new business is joining the downtown area with the goal of providing shoppers with affordable used furniture and other home furnishings.

The Tradin’ Post, located at 311 Spring St., is set to open on Monday, April 9.

Dan Schaeffer, owner of the Tradin’ Post, said that they will be selling mostly used furniture, but they also offer used appliances and other furnishings at various times, depending on their inventory.

Schaeffer got into the business after being inspired by his grandfather’s old antique business.

“My grandpa had an antique business when I was about 8 or 9,” Schaeffer said. “On the weekends, I would go spend the weekend with him and be at the store with Grandpa. That was Schaeffer’s Antiques.”

Schaeffer wanted to go to antiquing, but he found he was able to sell used furniture at affordable rates. “I like dealing with people in the community,” Schaeffer said. “It just seems like we need a real good used furniture store.”

Schaeffer has already been selling items via the business’s Facebook page, Piqua’s Tradin Post, but next week the community will get to browse his inventory in person in a family-oriented atmosphere.

For those looking to sell items, the Tradin’ Post is also open to buying household furnishings.

“We’re always looking to buy,” Schaeffer said. They also buy estates, he added. If a tenant moves out and leaves items behind, the Tradin’ Post will clean out the apartment in exchange for keeping the items to sell. They also clean out houses and garages to find their merchandise.

The Tradin’ Post will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Fridays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store will be closed on Sundays. If those times do not work for a customer, Schaeffer said that they are also able to make special arrangements.

The Tradin’ Post also offers free delivery to the local area, along with offering discounts to veterans.

“Come check us out,” Schaeffer said.
