TIPP CITY — CareFlight responded to a reported sledding accident behind Tip Top Canning off First Street on Saturday morning.
Tipp City Police officers on the scene shortly after the call found an 11-year-old male stranded on ice on a pond after the youth apparently slid down a steep hill behind the business and his momentum took him onto the ice.
A Tipp City Police officer crossed the ice-covered pond to rescue the youth and got him safely to shore. Officers, firefighters, and EMS then used ropes to transport him up the steep embankment to a waiting medic unit where he was transported to a landing zone that was set up at Kyle Park.
It is unknown how badly, if at all, he was injured or if there were possible issues due to exposure to the bitter cold, but first responders requested MedFlight be dispatched. MedFlight was unable to fly, but CareFlight responded to transport the youth to a Dayton hospital.
The youth’s name and condition have not been released.
