MIAMI COUNTY — Miami County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a body discovered on South County Road 25-A near Upper Valley Medical Center in the early morning hours on Monday.
According to Sheriff David Duchak, a motorist called to report a body on the side of the road around 1:30 a.m. Deputies identified the 60 year-old male, who was a resident of Piqua. Officials are not releasing the name at this time until next of kin are notified.
Duchak said no there is no foul play suspected and the preliminary investigation indicates the death was due to natural causes. No trauma was discovered on the body other than on the man’s face, from where he apparently collapsed face-first on the ground. According to reports, deputies arriving on the scene noted the body had not been deceased for an extended period of time.
Duchak said the male subject was known to have a variety of health issues and had been transported by Piqua Police Department to the Upper Valley Medical Center’s behavioral health center around 3:30 p.m. Monday. Hospital staff called around 5:45 p.m. to have the male transported back to a halfway house in Piqua, and the male subject could not be located on campus.
Duchak said the body was released to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
