Kennedy to speak at Women of Excellence event

Supreme Court of Ohio judge elected in 2012


PIQUA — Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Sharon L. Kennedy will be the featured speaker for the YWCA 21st annual Women of Excellence Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Piqua Country Club.

The reception begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon award presentation from 12-1:30 p.m. The 2017 Woman of Excellence honoree is Ruth Jenkins of Troy. The Young Woman of Tomorrow honoree is Ashley Ho of Piqua.

Sharon L. Kennedy, a jurist from Hamilton, Ohio, was elected to the Supreme Court of Ohio on Nov. 6, 2012. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati School of Social Work with a bachelor’s degree and the University of Cincinnati (Juris Doctor degree).

Kennedy was a police officer with the Hamilton Police Department and also served as a law clerk and director of the victim/witness division for the Butler County Court of Common Pleas.

After receiving her law degree, she was in private practice for seven years before serving as disciplinary counsel for the Fraternal Order of Police representing police officers during disciplinary hearings.

Following this, she served as special counsel for Ohio Attorney General Betty Montgomery for three years, was a warrant and compliance officer for the Butler County Juvenile Court for a year and became the magistrate and warrant officer for Butler County Courts for three years. From 1999-2012, Kennedy was judge and, since 2005, administrative judge of the Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division, for Butler County.

Kennedy lives in Liberty Township, Butler County. She has been a member of the Butler County Bar Association since 1992 and a member of the Federalist Society since 2012.
