Minor injuries in two-vehicle crash on 25-A

PIQUA – Injuries are believed to be relatively minor following a two-vehicle crash on County Road 25-A at the I-75 Farrington Road interchange on Wednesday afternoon.

According to sheriff’s department reports, a Saturn driven by Kristen Canan, 18, of Piqua, was southbound on Co. Rd. 25-A around 3:30 p.m. at an estimated speed of approximately 10 miles per hour as Canan said she was driving the vehicle to a salvage yard near Troy to be scrapped.

Reports from the scene indicate that Canan was operating the vehicles four-way safety flashers.

As her vehicle was going under the I-75 overpass, a pickup truck operated by Michael Gillenwater, 54, of Piqua, struck Canan’s vehicle from the rear.

Both drivers were transported to Upper Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. A 16-year-old passenger in Canan’s vehicle was also transported. It is unknown if she was injured.

Gillenwater was cited for an assured clear distance violation.

The crash is under investigation by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
