Open house planned

PIQUA — The Boy Scouts of America Troop 344 will be holding an open house on Sept. 12, from 7-8 p.m. The event is open to the public and will take place at 110 S. Wayne St. in Piqua. Eligible youth, boys aged 11 to 17-years-old, are invited to come and learn more about the Boy Scouts of America. At the open house, they will be discussing their upcoming fishing camping trip to Lake Loramie and offering a free raffle for one lucky boy to win a new fishing pole/tackle kit.

Heroin and opioid awareness week planned

TROY — Heroin and opioid awareness week will be held at the Troy-Miami County Public Library, 419 W. Main St. in Troy, between Sept. 18-20 from 6-8 p.m. each night.

On Monday, Sept. 18, will be the prevention and education night featuring a community panel with members of law enforcement, EMS, and Miami County Public Health.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19, will be the friends and family night. There will be Narcan training and distribution along with a Family of Addicts (FOA) meeting with a guest speaker.

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, will be the recovery treatment services night. There will be a panel discussion with recovery treatment agencies and local community partnerships.

The event is being presented by the Miami County Recovery Council, the Tri-County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services, and Miami County Public Health.

Trick or Treat/Beggars’ Night designated

PIQUA — During the Aug. 15 Piqua City Commission meeting, the commission designated Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. as official “Trick or Treat/Beggars’ Night” in the city of Piqua.

The date and time is established by the Miami County Council for all of Miami County to ensure consistency throughout the county and the commission followed their recommendation.

ODOT Traffic Advisory

MIAMI COUNTY — The following closures are currently in effect in Miami County for the week of Aug. 21-27:

• Piqua-Troy Road between Statler Road and Eldean Road, road continues to be closed until Oct. 12. The official detour is: Piqua-Troy Road to West Peterson to CR 25A to Eldean Road to Piqua-Troy Road, or Piqua-Troy Road to West Peterson to Troy-Sidney Road to Statler Road to Piqua-Troy Road.

• I-75 between CR 25A (Troy) and US 36, shoulder continues to be closed until Oct. 31.

Civil Service Commission meeting planned

PIQUA — The city of Piqua Civil Service Commission will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 4 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room located on the second floor of the municipal government complex, 201 West Water St. This meeting is for the purpose of establishing an entry level firefighter/paramedic eligibility list.
