Dayton man sentenced for drug related shooting


Dontae Bailey, 34, to serve 17 months for shooting Troy man

MIAMI COUNTY —The Dayton who shot a Troy resident during a drug transaction was sentenced on Monday.

In Miami County Common Pleas Court, Judge Christopher Gee sentenced Dontae Bailey Sr., 34, of Dayton, to serve 17 months for fourth degree aggravated assault, amended from a second degree felony. Bailey shot Chad Reedy, 33, of Troy, at the Imperial Court apartment complex on Jan. 17.

Reedy was shot in the thigh. He currently has an active warrant in Miami County and did not submit a victim witness statement to the court.

Bailey was given 101 days of jail time credit.

In other court news:

* Ryan Simon, 23, of Troy, was granted two years of community control for fourth degree felony drug trafficking in Miami County Common Pleas Court. Simon was indicted on the charge in January.

He entered a plea of guilty to the charge in March. Simon had no prior felony record.

Simon was ordered to complete a drug assessment as well as other conditions of his community control. Judge Gee reserved 18 months in prison if he is found in violation of the probation terms.

“Don’t test the limits,” Gee told Simon after sentencing. “You have a lot at stake here — it’s a whole new world you are in.”

Simon also forfeited $4,994 and three handguns involved in the incident.
