PIQUA — The Piqua chapter of the Awesome Foundation launched in June of 2016 is now one year old and has awarded seven awesome grants to local community members to assist them in the follow-through of their own awesome ideas.

The Awesome Foundation is proud the announce the recipient of a $1,000 cash grant is Paula Schmiesing. She is an intervention specialist at Piqua High School, as well as the 2017 Teacher of the Year, but received the cash to help make her dream of a Farm to Table Dinner for the local community a reality. Awesome Piqua’s mission is to fund projects to make a positive impact in Piqua and promote its awesomeness.

The Awesome Foundation grant will be used to purchase hand-crafted plates for each person at the dinner as a special take-home gift. The dinner, set for Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Fry Family Farm, will include a four-course meal and live music. Tickets are on sale now for $35 and can

be purchased at the Mainstreet Piqua office and Readmore’s Hallmark.

Schmiesing’s mission is to heighten awareness of the significance of sourcing local foods to benefit our local farmers and to help sustain the health and eco-friendliness of our community. In 2017, 70 guests will enjoy an evening including foods grown in Miami County and proceeds will be used to

make this event an annual occurrence with a growing number of guests each year.

Awesome Piqua (www.AwesomePiqua.org) is focused on funding new projects that will make the Piqua community a better place to live and work — the mission of Positively Promoting Piqua, which is the creator and main organizer of the local chapter.

Applications can be made by individuals, groups or non-profit organizations alike. Grant recipients do not need to be approved charitable 501c3 organizations. Applications can be made by visiting the Awesome Piqua website at www.awesomepiqua.org and clicking on the “Apply Here” link at the

top of the page.

Generally, every month the Awesome Piqua trustees will review the grant applications received, discuss the awesomeness of each new idea and choose the winning idea to receive the $1,000 grant, no strings attached.

Anyone with a truly awesome idea can get some support to take their initiative to the next level, with some assistance from the Awesome Piqua.
