MIAMI COUNTY — A mother of two small children was arrested after she passed out on top of her three-week-old infant after she allegedly huffed a can of compressed air Thursday evening.

Courtney Whitmore, 23, of Troy, was charged with fifth-degree felony abusing harmful intoxicants, and two fourth-degree felony child endangerment charges and several probation violations. She was incarcerated at the Miami County Jail after she was treated and released at Upper Valley Medical Center.

Whitmore’s four-year-old son flagged down a passerby outside the home who called 9-1-1 around 6 p.m.

According to reports, Troy Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Mystic Street on a report of an assist squad.

Whitmore was allegedly unconscious at the time medics arrived. Medics stated they found Whitmore laying on the floor with the infant’s torso trapped under her. A can of Dust Off Compressed-Gas Duster, cold to the touch, was found underneath the bed.

The witnesses who called 9-1-1 said they were headed home and saw a young boy outside waving and crying. He told them, “Mommy is sick,” and found Whitmore on the floor in a seated position and slumped over the baby. The baby was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center and then to Dayton Children’s Hospital for observation. Miami County Children Services responded to the scene and ordered Whitmore not to have any unsupervised contact with the infant until she was assessed.

According to court records, Whitmore was last charged with abuse of harmful intoxicants after a report filed on Jan. 12, 2017, where she was found huffing in the Kroger parking lot while six months pregnant. She was found guilty and placed on probation.

In 2016, Whitmore was charged on two separate occaisions for huffing and child endangerment including an incident where she left her son with a customer inside the Troy Walgreen’s store to get high on air duster in the bathroom. She was arraigned on the new charges Friday morning.
