MIAMI COUNTY — A woman overdosed on suspected heroin Monday evening at the Miami County Jail.
The Piqua Police Department brought Jenna M. Jaynes, 23, who has previous addresses listed in both Union and Tipp City, to the Miami County Jail on a probation/parole violation Monday evening.
“She was brought in, and she was patted down and put in a holding cell, and she had a cap or a small amount of heroin concealed in the waist band of her clothing,” Chief Deputy Steve Lord of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said. “She ingested it and overdosed.”
Jaynes overdosed at approximately 8 p.m. An EMS squad responded to the jail, and Jaynes was administered Narcan before being taken to the Upper Valley Medical Center. She was then cleared and taken back to the jail.
No other inmates were in contact with Jaynes at the time of the incident, as she had been put in a single holding cell by herself. Jaynes had not yet been issued new clothing.
“A cap would be very hard to find if it was in the waist band,” Lord said, noting that a cap of drugs is about the size of a Tic Tac.
Jaynes has been charged with third-degree felony illegal conveyance of narcotics into a jail in connection with this incident. Jaynes is continuing to be held at the jail on hold for the adult parole authority and also has a $2,500 bond. She was arraigned Tuesday morning.
In March, Jaynes was granted the opportunity to receive treatment in lieu of being convicted for stealing approximately $26,103 from the Dairy Queen in Tipp City to fund her heroin habit. Jaynes was granted the stay in her case as she pursues drug treatment options at the Turning Point facility and the Miami County Drug Court program for the next three years. Jaynes entered a plea of guilty for fourth degree grand theft, which will remain pending her completion of the conditions of the treatment plans filed with the court.
