MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Foundation held its spring grant distribution celebration this past month where it awarded over 90 grants to various nonprofit organizations and schools throughout Miami County totaling $233,168. The motto of the Miami County Foundation is People Helping People. Since its founding more than 30 years ago the organization has carried out its mission to promote and encourage the health, education and welfare of the citizens of Miami County.
The Miami County Foundation takes great pride in supporting initiatives which provide for the safety of the residents its serves. Among the grant recipients was the Lockington Volunteer Fire Association for the purchase fire extinguisher training devices. The training is offered throughout the county.
Upper Valley Medical Center Foundation received a grant to support the Rachel’s Challenge Program, which is dedicated to helping schools create a safe environment where learning and teaching are maximized. The program also discourages bullying and promotes kindness amongst students.
The Miami County Foundation understands that the growth and development of its youngest citizens plays a key role in the success of our community. The Foundation takes great pride in awarding the Miami County Educational Service Center a grant that enables them to hold an awards banquet for the Valedictorians and Salutatorians of each school district throughout Miami County. Each student is presented with a plaque and is asked to bring a teacher from their school that has helped and inspired them in their scholastic career.

The Salvation Army in Piqua also was selected to receive a grant from the Jean & John Dugan Family Fund.
