MIAMI COUNTY — A hearing in Miami County Municipal Court was continued Wednesday for a Covington man accused of having sex with a minor at the Piqua Public Library.

Michael W. Workman, 22, of Covington, was arraigned last Friday in Miami County Municipal Court on fourth-degree felony unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and was released on his own recognizance after spending the night at the Miami County Jail. A preliminary hearing for Workman was scheduled for Wednesday.

The Miami County Children’s Services Board notified the Piqua Police Department of the alleged incident. According to Miami County Municipal Court records, Workman allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old female juvenile in the women’s restroom of the Piqua Public Library in February. This took place during a visitation the victim was having with her mother at the library.

Workman reportedly admitted to having sex with the underage victim at the library as well as during prior incidents at his residence in Covington. When asked if he was aware that it was against the law to have sex with a juvenile, he said that he was aware and that it was something that “just happened,” according to court records.
