FFA competes in career events


CASSTOWN — Several members of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter recently completed in two Ohio FFA State Career Development Events. Both events were two new competitions to the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter.

The Grain Merchandising event consisted of an online test which evaluated participant’s knowledge of grain merchandising options for farmers and former and current grain marketing trends. The team placed eighth in the state with the team lead by Katie Bodenmiller, who placed 20 out of 245 individuals. Additional members were Austin Niswonger, Alyssa Westgerdes, Jacob Rife, Makenzie Comer, Sidney Pelfrey, Colton Kowalak, Emma Linn, Alex Isbrandt, Couy Moreland, Rachael Hodge, Emma Younce, Dylan Hahn, Kami Hahn, Weston Hodge, Alex DiNardo, Cameron Coomes, Carly Gump, and Rachel Davis. David Miller from Heritage Cooperative and Janelle Brinksneader from Andersons Ethanol offered their coaching help.

The Agricultural Issues Forum team consisted of Kylie Blair, Jessica Copeland, Carly Gump, Abigail Koontz, and Alyssa Westgerdes. The team presented their open discussion on a controversial topic, Genetically Modified Organism labeling, then answered questions pertaining to the topic. The team placed ninth in the state. The event was hosted at the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences on the campus of The Ohio State University.
