MIAMI COUNTY — Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies teamed with agents from the Ohio Investigative Unit to conduct alcohol compliance checks at businesses within the county that have liquor permits.

This time of year, especially as prom season begins, an increase in underage consumption of alcohol is seen, according to Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchak.

“We will try to do this a couple times a year. We try to do this around prom and homecoming time,” Duchak said. “Ironically, at all three businesses that sold, they carded them and still sold it to them.”

Three separate businesses sold alcohol to a person under age 21. Appropriate charges were filed against the liquor permit holder and the employee who sold the alcohol.

Permit holders are reminded to have their employees check identification to ensure persons purchasing alcohol are age 21 or older, Duchak said.
