PIQUA – One person was detained following a short chase on South Main Street late Thursday night.

A Piqua Fire Department medic was dispatched to the 200 block of South Main Street just after 11 p.m. on the report of a car stopped on a sidewalk and the driver throwing up.

As Piqua police and medics arrived on the scene, the man, who police identify as Joshua Wagner, 33, got back into the vehicle and fled south on Main Street.

Officers pursued the vehicle at speeds reported up to around 65 miles per hour and reported little-to-no traffic.

Wagner slowed to a stop twice as officers stayed behind his vehicle.

The car finally went into the ditch just north of Fox Drive and officers put Wagner at gunpoint. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Wagner refused treatment by medics and was taken into custody.

He faces charges of OVI and Failure to Comply. Police say that Wagner’s blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit.

He was transported to the Miami County Jail where he was arraigned early Friday morning and released.
