PIQUA — A man was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center for treatment following a pair of crashes, the last one leaving his vehicle lying on its side.
Miami County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of County Road 25-A and Farrington Road around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday on the report of a hit-skip crash. Witnesses said that a white pickup truck struck a sign then continued north on County Road 25-A.
Piqua police were contacted to watch for the vehicle. Minutes later, the suspect vehicle was reported to have crashed and overturned onto its side on County Road 25-A at Hemm Road.
The driver, identified as Ty A. Hess, 57, was reported to be trapped in the vehicle.
Piqua Fire Department medics and rescue vehicles responded to the scene. The windshield was cut away and the Hess rescued from inside.
He appeared to have suffered a head injury. His condition was unknown as of late Wednesday afternoon.
Traffic on County Road 25-A was reduced to a single lane as the crash was investigated and cleared.
Hess has been charged with failure to control and OVI.
The first crash, at 25-A and Farrington is being investigated by the Miami County Sheriff’s Department while the second is being handled by the Piqua Police Department.
