PIQUA — The owner of a new barbershop in downtown Piqua which recently opened is excited to finally be leaving his thumbprint on the community.

Chris Wenrick, owner of Chris’s Barbershop at 419 N. Main St., said although his business has only been open for less than a month — the shop officially opened on Jan. 16 — he couldn’t be happier with how things are going.

Wenrick recently left another local barbershop to pursue his own business. It’s a move he didn’t take lightly.

“We knew it may be a little slow at first, but thankfully, I’ve been fortunate enough to have built a great customer base over the years,” Wenrick said. “It’s amazing how many of them have already come back to see me in such a short amount of time.”

When Wenrick decided to open up a new barbershop in town, one of the first things he knew he wanted to do is make sure it stood out when compared to other barbershops in the area.

“I knew it was important to make sure we weren’t only a little bit different, but also that we stood out and added to Piqua’s downtown scene,” he said.

And that’s just what he did. After having the exterior of the building completely repainted, a vintage barbershop pole added out front and the interior totally revamped, the shop has come together and Wenrick couldn’t be more pleased.

“It’s been a unique process,” he said. “Prior to this, I had been working in the same shop for years. This is a big step for myself and my family and I couldn’t be more thrilled for the journey that lies ahead.”

When he isn’t cutting hair, Wenrick enjoys spending time with his wife, Rachael, and son, Vincent, 3.

“My family has been supportive throughout all of this,” he said. “It’s definitely a big change for them as well.”

Chris’s Barbershop is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The shop is closed on Thursdays and Sundays. Walk-ins are welcome!.
