PIQUA — Victory Baptist Church was reportedly broken into and vandalized sometime overnight between Wednesday and Thursday. The break-in was reported on Thursday morning at 11:32 a.m.
“Entry was gained by pushing in a window air conditioner,” Deputy Chief Marty Grove of the Piqua Police Department said. “At this point it is unknown if anything has been taken.”
There was damage reportedly done inside of the church, which is located at 1601 South Street. According to the report, cupboards were rifled through, doors were torn off their hinges, sound equipment and computer equipment were damaged, and other items in the church were broken as well.
In connection with another church break-in, Miami County deputies and Piqua Police detectives arrested Dustin L. Connor, 29, of Piqua, on Friday on charges of breaking and entering, theft, and vandalism. His charges are all felonies of the fifth degree. That break-in reportedly occurred earlier this week at Snyder Road Church of God in Springcreek Township.
According to the press release, Connor is suspected of other property crimes in the Piqua area. The Miami County Sheriff’s Office stated that it was believed he was selling stolen property, including a Dell computer stolen from Snyder Road Church of God, to person(s) in the Piqua area who did not know the property was stolen.
Anyone who may have purchased any property from Connor or who has any information on this or other cases is asked to call the Miami County Communications Center at (937) 440-9911 or Detective Ben Garbig at (937) 440-3965 Ext. 6634.
